Antonio Fuoco wins race two to close a perfect weekend in Imola

by Luis Miguel Martinez

Antonio Fuoco completed a perfect Imola weekend by winning again in race two and extending his already big lead in the championship standings.

William Vermont also managed to get a very consistent weekend by getting second place and being the only other diver to stand in the podium in these two races, third was for Bruno Bonifacio after pulling an early overtake over Pierre Gasly who ended in fourth.

The race started with Fuoco maintaining the lead followed by Vermont and Gasly, Luca Ghioto jumped the start and got penalised. In lap two Dario Capitanio made light contact with Nyck de Vries and spun from sixth place to the gravel, in the same lap Bonifacio overtook Gasly for third place and the rest of the race was a fastest lap battle between Vermont and Fuoco, with the latter having the fastest time and the end.

Fuoco won with Vermont in second and Bonifacio third. Fourth was Gasly followed by Nyck de Vries in fifth, repeating his race one result. Sixth was Ghiotto and Matthieu Vaxiviere was seventh just in front of the newcomer Jakub Dalewski in eighth scoring points in both races. Ninth was Simon Tirman and the last point was for Luke Chudleigh scoring his first point of the season.

?The team managed a perfect job. I was able to find a good pace that allowed me to gain precious meters already in the first stages. For sure we will do our best to keep the momentum going,? said Fuoco

?My race pace was fine, but not having the chance to start from the front row all was more challenging. I?m quite satisfied though and I?m confident to go back on top podium step soon,? declared Bonifacio

After the Imola weekend Fuoco increased his championship lead. The top five is: Antonio Fuoco 93pts; Pierre Gasly 57pts; Bruno Bonifacio 52pts; Luca Ghiotto 44pts; William Vermont 41pts
