Campos Racing’s Jan Przyrowski has inherited a Spanish Formula 4 double win from the opening round at Motorland Aragon after Rene Lammers was penalised twice.
Lammers won races two and three on the road on Sunday, taking his first victories in the main Spanish F4 championship and setting him up to leave the opening round with the championship lead.
However, the MP Motorsport driver was later given a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits in race two, demoting him to sixth in the results. He then received a similar penalty for race three, where he was reclassified as second.
Przyrowski came from ninth on the grid to challenge Lammers for the race two win, crossing the line in second. He initially finished third in race three behind team-mate Thomas Strauven, who would also receive a five-second penalty to drop him to third.
Strauven now leads the championship by two points over Przyrowski and three ahead of Lammers.
Track limits were a major talking point across the weekend the weekend at Motorland Aragon. Even in qualifying, a fourth track limits infraction was enough for a driver to have all of their times deleted plus a €500 fine, with a further €500 fine for every subsequent transgression, with third-year Juan Cota among those to fall foul.
While some penalties were handed out during the races, others came only after lengthy investigations post-session – like those of Lammers – with final results for the two Sunday races not published until after 9pm local time.
