BRSCC National Formula Ford 1600 runner-up Spike Kohlbecker has confirmed his move to United States Formula 4 with Kiwi Motorsport.
Kohlbecker raced in wingless single-seaters from 2017 to ’19, with wins in the Ontario-based Toyo Tires F1600 and Britain’s National FF1600 championship.
His National campaign with Cliff Dempsey Racing actually resulted in him outscoring Team Dolan’s champion Ross Martin, but he lost out on the title due to dropped score.
At the start of 2020 he moved up the regional Formula 3-spec Toyota Racing Series with Kiwi, and finished 13th in the points with one top-five finish. His US F4 deal with the team came apparent shortly afterwards, but wasn’t confirmed until this week.
?To say I?m excited to race in the US with Kiwi Motorsport is an understatement,? Kohlbecker said. ?I?ve already heard from many of my sponsors and supporters ? it?s going to be great to have them in the stands and with me in the pits.
?I learned a lot from my time in New Zealand and I feel like I have a solid foundation coming into the year. This will be yet another challenge for me, but I am ready.?
The move also means Kohlbecker will reunite with TRS engineer Tim Neff.
Kiwi co-owner Garry Orton added: ?We?re glad to have Spike back with the team here in the US.
“After watching Spike?s amazing progress in TRS we sat down with him and set forth a plan to run in the US and now that plan has come together.”
Other US F4 signings include Sam Paley at Jay Howard Driver Development, and Mitch Regedas and Uruguayan Maite Caceres.
