Tio Ellinas takes MRF pole at Sakhir

by Valentin Khorounzhiy

GP3 series graduate Tio Ellinas topped his first MRF Challenge qualifying in round two of the season at Sakhir, beating out championship leader Arthur Pic by three and a half tenths.

The Cypriot was dominant in the session, being the only driver to go below the 2:03 benchmark. He managed to do so twice and, as such, also took pole for race three, the grid for which is formed on second-best laps.

Rupert Svendsen-Cook, who won the reverse-grid race at Buddh International, took third, ahead of Formula Challenge Japan racer Shinya Michimi.

Briton Harry Tincknell, looking to make up some positions in the standings after an incident in the opening race, was fifth, while Sam Brabham took an impressive sixth.

Practice pacesetter Sam Dejonghe placed seventh, as Yudai Jinkawa, Ryan Cullen and Renan Guerra rounded out the top ten.
