Strakka Racing has withdrawn from competing in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 in order to focus on its other programmes for the rest of the year.
The World Endurance Championship and Formula Renault 3.5 outfit added an FR2.0 programme towards the end of last year and ran cars for Charlie Eastwood and Valentin Hasse-Clot at the Eurocup opener at Motorland Aragon last month.
The team will now focus on its WEC and FR3.5 projects, but retain its three FR2.0 chassis “with a view to return to the championship at some stage”.
?It?s a culmination of a number of factors that has led to this difficult decision,? said Strakka technical director Jay Davenport.
?Our other programmes are taking more time than we hoped at this stage, stretching our internal resource and it is not right to compromise the FR2.0 programme. It has always been Strakka?s approach to resource our teams properly, often with full-time engineers and technicians and at present we can?t do that for the FR2.0 team.
“With development of the DOME S103 [the team’s WEC car] needing all our attention, together with a serious FR3.5 championship campaign on World Series weekend, we cannot do justice to the young drivers in FR2.0. We apologise to the drivers and championship organisers but will only return when we can do it the way we want to.?
Strakka had also participated at the FR2.0 NEC opener at Monza with Eastwood, Hasse-Clot and Max Defourny, with the latter two both taking a podium finish.
The entry list for the second round at Silverstone this weekend shows Eastwood and Defourny present with Fortec Motorsports and the ART Junior Team respectively.
