Marciello secures triple pole at Nurburgring

Ferrari junior Raffaele Marciello enjoyed one of his finest qualifying performances to date during the European F3 qualifying at Nurburgring, securing pole position for all three races of the weekend.

In the first qualifying session, the dominant Prema driver produced two laptimes better than anything managed by the rest of the field and, as such, ensured he would start both race one and race two from pole. T-Sport’s Alexander Sims marked his second appearance this season with second on the grid, while Marciello’s chief rival Felix Rosenqvist and British F3 leader Jordan King made up the second row.

Fortec’s Pipo Derani put in a superb performance to take fifth, ahead of Prema’s Lucas Auer and Mucke’s Michael Lewis. Derani’s teammate Felix Serralles was eighth, with local driver Sven Muller and Harry Tincknell closing out the top ten.

Based on second-best times, Rosenqvist secures a front row spot alongside Marciello in race two, while Derani and Sims will make up the second row.

In session two, Marciello’s dominance seemed even more obvious as he never relinquished the top spot after taking it midway through the session. His teammate Auer will join him on front row, with main rival Rosenqvist and King in third and fourth. Derani and Sims take fifth and sixth respectively, with Serralles lining up behind his teammate. Daniil Kvyat, Tincknell and Lewis round out the top ten.
