Red Bull junior Liam Lawson has claimed pole position for Euroformula Open’s first race on the streets of Pau.
Motopark driver Lawson was on top of the times before a crash for Calan Williams at the Gare hairpin triggered a red flag.
After the restart, Julian Hanses and Lukas Dunner became the first drivers to break into the 1m10s, but Lawson responded with two faster laps at the end of the session, clinching pole with a 1m10.504s.
Making his third Pau appearance, Marino Sato slotted into second place, three tenths behind Lawson but five thousandths of a second in front of Hanses.
Teo Martin Motorsport driver Dunner denied Motopark a clean sweep of the top four, with Yuki Tsunoda having to make do with fifth.
Nicolai Kjaergaard led Carlin team-mate Christian Hahn in sixth and seventh, with Linus Lundqvist eighth for Double R. Billy Monger took 10th behind Guilherme Samaia.
Carlin’s Honda junior Teppei Natori was another to make contact with the barriers, finishing up 14th.
