McKenzy Cresswell took his sixth win of the season in the final race of the 2021 British Formula 4 championship.
It was a relatively simple lights-to-flag victory for Cresswell. The JHR Developments driver got a good start and was already well clear of the battling Matias Zagazeta and Joseph Loake as the field came out of Paddock Hill Bend.
Cresswell wouldn’t be able to build up too much of an advantage, but held Zagazeta at about 1.5 seconds back throughout the 14-lap race.
He came home 1.506s ahead of the Argenti driver, who with fastest lap managed to pip Cresswell to the title runner-up spot by a point.
After his strong start to the race, a wide moment for Loake sent him tumbling down the order. He suffered damage to the rear of his car and ended the race in the pit lane.
The incident promoted Aiden Neate up to third while newly crowned champion Matthew Rees came home fourth.
Much of the drama of the race happened further down the order. Eduardo Coseteng spent much of the race leading a train of drivers in the battle for sixth. He had Oliver Gray, Georgi Dimitrov and Cameron McLeod close behind, but was putting up a good defence. That came to an end after Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak managed to get alongside him. The two made small contact and Coseteng ran wide through the gravel. He was shuffled to the back of the group.
Dimitrov was promoted to sixth and began closing the gap to Marcos Flack in fifth before the chequered flag.
Gray finished seventh ahead of McLeod, Inthraphuvasak and Kai Askey.
This article was updated to address the fact that Zagazeta claimed the title runner-up spot after claiming an additional point for fastest lap, which was not previously stated in the report
