Bent Viscaal claimed victory in the first Spanish Formula 4 race of the weekend ahead of championship leader Christian Lundgaard.

Lundgaard?s second place doubles his championship lead to six points over Alexander Smolyar with just two races remaining.

Starting from the front row of the grid, both MP Motorsport drivers got a clean get away and immediately began to build up a gap to the rest of the field. Viscaal stayed on his team-mate?s gearbox for the majority of the race before snatching the lead in the closing stages.

He finished more than four seconds clear of Lundgaard to take his fifth win of the season.

Smolyar jumped up to third on the opening lap, but couldn?t keep up with the leading duo. He was challenged in the second half of the race by Lukas Dunner, another of Lundgaard?s team-mates, but managed to keep the Russian behind him.

Tuomas Haapalainen finished fifth ahead of Nikita Volegov, who built up a small train throughout the race.

Guillem Pujeu took seventh after an early battle with Javier Gonzalez. Gonzalez?s eighth place after a difficult qualifying for the Mexican allowed Dunner to close the gap to just four points in the fight for fifth in the championship.

Konsta Lappalainen and Nazim Azman rounded out the top 10.
