David Schumacher will return to Charouz Racing System‘s no #15 car for this weekend’s FIA Formula 3 Championship round at Zandvoort, replacing Christian Mansell who returns to his Euroformula campaign.
Schumacher, son of former race-winning Formula 1 driver Ralf, raced for the Czech team at Imola earlier in the season and finished 18th and 12th in the two races. He also did six rounds with the team in 2020 before moving to Carlin and then on to Trident in 2021.
Charouz has used five different drivers in its #15 car this year – Ayrton Simmons, Lirim Zendeli, Zdenek Chovanec, Mansell and Schumacher – alongside full-timers Francesco Pizzi and Laszlo Toth in its other two entries.
Schumacher starred in last year’s FIA F3 round at Zandvoort. After narrowly missing out on pole for the feature race, he ran second before being pushed into a spin by Victor Martins’ misjudged overtaking attempt.
“I’m very happy to have once again the chance to race in F3 with Charouz Racing System,” said Schumacher.
”Imola has been a difficult weekend but we definitely had the pace, so I’m really positive that we’re gonna have a great potential at Zandvoort too. I know the track from last year and that could be a little advantage, also given that the weather situation could be variable and open different scenarios.
“I’ll be ready to try my best and catch any eventual opportunity to score points.”
Charouz’s owner Antonin Charouz added: “I’m happy to welcome back David to the team, he’s a talented driver and he can surely help us in putting together a good weekend.”
