Rosenqvist blows title fight wide open with race three win

Mucke’s Felix Rosenqvist will be leaving Zandvoort with 75 points added to his championship tally, having confidently taken the race three victory from pole.

The Swede ran unopposed for the majority of the race, keeping nearest rival Jordan King one second behind.

The biggest threat to Rosenqvist’s win came, peculiarly enough, from his main rival Raffaele Marciello‘s woes, as the championship leader stuffed the car into a wall in the closing minutes of the race while chasing after Daniil Kvyat. The incident, which marked the third retirement from that barrier (with Nicholas Latifi and Alfonso Celis exiting the race in similar fashions earlier), brought out a safety car, which was called back in for one final lap of green-flag racing.

Despite a rather feisty restart from King, Rosenqvist maintained the lead and took the checkered flag.

Prema Powerteam’s Alex Lynn took third, ahead of front row starter Kvyat and Pipo Derani. Carlin’s Harry Tincknell was sixth for the third time this weekend, while Lucas Auer overtook Tom Blomqvist for seventh during the final lap.

Alexander Sims and Mitch Gilbert rounded out the top ten, with the final point going to Antonio Giovinazzi, who overtook Mucke duo of Michael Lewis and Roy Nissany in the very end of the race.

Marciello’s nightmare weekend allowed Rosenqvist to drastically close down the gap in the title fight, with the Swede leaving for Vallelunga just 9.5 points off the lead.
