GB3 race-winner Roberto Faria will return to championship for another season this year, switching to Carlin from Fortec Motorsports.

The Brazilian driver stepped up the series then known as BRDC British F3 in the middle of 2020 while in his second year in British Formula 4 with Fortec, and claimed a podium finish at the end of his four-round campaign.

He then finished fifth overall when he contested the full 2021 season with the team, taking a total of nine podiums including a win on the maiden trip to Spa-Francorchamps.

Faria did a day’s testing in FIA Formula 3 with Jenzer Motorsport at Valencia last October but will stay in GB3 this year, signing with the Carlin team that took Zak O’Sullivan to the 2021 title.

“I can’t wait to get the 2022 GB3 Championship underway with Carlin,” he said.

“I know that we will be able to fight together to be race winners and title contenders.

|I’m really looking forward to racing with the new chassis and I believe my experience in the championship so far will mean that we are able start the year off in a strong position and continue to build from there.

“I’d like to thank the team and my sponsors for the opportunity – I can’t wait to get going on our test programme.”

Faria is Carlin’s second GB3 signing for 2022 after it announced Ginetta Junior graduate Callum Voisin, with a third driver set to be announced soon.

“We’ve raced against Roberto for a few years now so we’re well aware of his potential,” said team boss Trevor Carlin.

“As a race winner already in GB3 he clearly has the talent and speed to be fighting at the front.

“The new car will be a new challenge for all the drivers but with his experience I’d expect Roberto to adapt quickly. I’ve no doubt that he will be a great asset to the team this season.”
