A feature on the official F1 2021 game enables you to sign drivers from last year’s Formula 2 grid to race in your team. To do this, Codemasters has ranked drivers in an odd way, and Formula Scout has its own take
The F1 2021 game’s new story mode ‘Breaking Point’ features Formula 2 in its tale, and each of the teams and drivers from last year’s dramatic season are also available to choose from to play as at your leisure or to sign for your own team in the career mode. Mick Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda and Nikita Mazepin all graduated to the top tier in the real world, and their ratings reflect that, but some of the 2020 title contenders have been given ratings lower than many would have anticipated.
Formula Scout has gone about giving its own ratings, based on the end of the 2020 F2 season (albeit without driver changes). The ratings in F1 2021 have their overall score skewed heavily towards pace, and the team’s ratings also reflect that (albeit with a slightly different formula).
We’ve decided to rectify the low ratings that F2’s title challengers and race-winners have been given, and have also opted to analyse some of the choices made by Codemasters and EA Sports. The numbers below reflect an average of the ratings given by Craig Woollard, Alejandro Alonso Lopez, Bethonie Waring and Jordan Edwards.
In addition to the main story mode, the F2 cars and the drivers are available to play as in Grand Prix and Time Trial modes.
The current field will be introduced in an update towards the end of 2021, although those who graduated from FIA Formula 3 were given their own hypothetical ratings by Formula Scout last year.
