Caterham junior Seb Morris was quickest during practice for the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC opener at Monza.
Morris, contesting the series with reigning champions Fortec Motorsports, was the only driver to go quicker than 1:50s, doing so in the second practice session.
Josef Kaufmann Racing’s Kevin Jorg set the pace in the first practice, leading Manor racer Steijn Schothorst and Euronova’s Ukyo Sasahara. Louis Deletraz was two tenths off his teammate in fourth, with another JKR racer Gustav Malja rounding out the top five.
Series debutant Matthew Graham took sixth in session one ahead of karting graduate Ben Barnicoat and FR1.6 NEC champion Roy Geerts, with Morris and Jakub Dalewski rounding out the top ten.
Session two saw a change of names at the front, with Morris leading ART Junior Team’s Levin Amweg. Graham and Barnicoat were close behind the Swiss driver in third and fourth, with Callan O’Keeffe 0.004s behind the karting graduate in fifth.
Alexander Albon was two tenths down on the leader in sixth, with Aurelien Panis, Sasahara, Jules Gounon and Andrea Pizzitola closing out the top ten.
