The Formula Renault 1.6 round at Assen yielded the same winners as the first round of the series at Zandvoort, with race two victory secured by Roy Geerts.
Although Larry ten Voorde started from the pole position, Martin Rump took the lead after a slow getaway from the Dutchman. He didn’t hold the race lead for long though as Geerts soon slotted in behind the Estonian and was able to pass Rump.
From that point on, Rump’s pace dropped off. 16-year-old Dutch Janneau Esmeijer also overtook the Estonian and put pressure on Geerts, briefly taking the lead. However, Geerts was soon back at the top of the timesheets and from that point on, it was a relatively calm drive for him to take the win.
Esmeijer took second while Rump found himself unable to fight with the leading duo, which prompted him to cruise to third place.
Pole-sitter ten Voorde had to settle with fourth position. Wouter Boerekamps, Lukas Sundahl and Paul Blomqvist finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
Joel Affolter picked up eighth, with Tommy van Erp and Otto Tjader rounding out the top ten.
