Dutch karting graduate Roy Geerts topped the qualifying for round two of the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC series at Assen, coming out on top in a closely-fought qualifying session.

Geerts took the lead in the session early on and maintained his spot as the poleman, despite other drivers coming within just tenths of a second off his time.

Championship leader Martin Rump was second, beating Larry ten Voorde by just 0.001s with a late effort that wound up just 0.1s slower than the pole time. Janneau Esmeijer took fourth, another tenth down.

Lukas Sundahl was the best of the rest in fifth, while Wouter Boerekamps narrowly bested Pontus Fredricsson for sixth. Paul Blomqvist took eighth, ahead of Joel Affoler and Tommy van Erp.
