Porsche Carrera Cup Asia regular Li Zhi Cong will join the British F3 field for the Brands Hatch round in August, having secured a drive for Carlin.

The 19-year-old Chinese driver has a fair amount of single-seater experience, having raced in Formula Renault Asia in 2010-2012 and scoring two race wins over the three seasons. He’s also driver in 2011’s Formula Pilota China (now renamed to Formula Masters China), finishing sixth in the standings with two podiums.

“In 2012 I was taking part in the Macau GT Cup and Carlin’s victory caught my eye. I?ve been following F3 for a few years now and noticed that Carlin is one of the most successful F3 teams in the world. Since I started racing I always wanted to compete in an F3 car. British F3 is the right choice due to its history and demanding British circuits”, stated Cong, adding: “The car is great, but I have limited experience, so I can?t expect to fight for the top places.”

In the current season of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Cong currently sits in 11th in the standings, with a best finish of eighth at Zhuhai.

Carlin’s fielded a three-driver lineup for the previous two rounds of the championship, with their top driver Jordan King currently occupying second in the standings. In addition to Cong, a fifth driver for their roster is expected to be unveiled shortly.
