Felipe Nasr has wrapped up the British F3 title, following in the footsteps of fellow Brazilians such as Emmerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna and Rubens Barrichello…
Felipe has been pretty dominant in the category this season, scoring seven wins from the first 18 races. Although he hasn’t won any of the last six races his third place finish in the last race at Rockingham was enough to put him out of reach of the chasing pack with meetings at Donington Park and Silverstone remaining.
Managed by Kimi Raikkonen’s manager Steve Robertson, Felipe will almost certainly step up to either GP2 or Formula Renault 3.5 next year. His current team Carlin races in both categories, so expect him to turn out for them in one of the two series. Budget constraints could limit him to FR3.5, but if he were to make that move he would likely be a contender from the off, whereas a step up to GP2 could require a learning year in 2012.
Whatever happens Felipe has proven himself to be the class of the field in British F3 this year (in fact he was the first driver we profiled here at PaddockScout), and he stands a good chance of joining those illustrious names from his nation who’ve won the very same title in the past.
