Felix Serralles continued his tussle with Lucas Auer for the Toyota Racing Series points lead by winning the second race of the weekend at Timaru from lights-to-flag.
Starting from pole position on the reverse grid after coming home sixth in Saturday’s race one, the Puerto Rican held off Kiwi Damon Leitch to score his second win of the campaign. That meant that he reclaimed the top spot in the standings that Auer had stolen with victory in the first race, with a one point advantage over his Austrian rival.
Behind Leitch, Steijn Schothorst ran third early on until he was shown a black-and-orange flag for a broken front wing. Forced to pit for a new one, he finished a lap down.
Defending champion Nick Cassidy inherited the final podium spot, having already got past Bruno Bonifacio, to add to his second place from race one. He will have been keen to maximise his points haul as he qualified down in ninth place for the weekend’s final race.
Bonifacio was fourth ahead of Auer, with Alex Lynn taking sixth place. Pipo Derani was seventh with Nicholas Latifi, Jann Mardenborough and Tanart Sathienthirakul completing the top ten.
A late off from Spike Goddard caused the race to end under safety car conditions.
Race three takes place at 15:00 local time, or 02:00 GMT.
