Fortec has signed Diego Menchaca to form an all-Mexican line-up for World Series Formula V8 3.5 this season.

Telmex-supported Menchaca steps up from Euroformula Open joins the previously announced Alfonso Celis, who returns to Fortec after spending his first two years in the category at AVF.

Menchaca, 22, previously raced for Fortec in his maiden European campaign in Formula Renault BARC in 2012.

He raced in both that series and BRDC Formula 4 over a three-year period in Britain, scoring one win in the latter series, before a two-season stint in Euroformula Open, coming eighth in the standings in 2015 and fourth in 2016.

?I?m very excited to carry on with my sporting career by joining the World Series Formula V8 3.5,” he said.

“It?s a natural move for me, specially having attended most of the races last year while I was participating in the EuroFormula Open.

“Winter testing went really well and I can?t wait to be behind the wheel.”

The series will race in Mexico City in September in support of the World Endurance Championship.

“Of course, the fact of having one of the meetings organised in Mexico is going to be the highest point of the season, with all the Mexican crowds cheering for us.”

Team manager Jamie Dye added: “We are very happy to sign Diego for the season. He did a great job in winter testing.

“He adapted to our car very quickly and showed us that the potential is there.”
