Van Amersfoort Racing’s Max Verstappen topped the first qualifying session of the FIA F3 European Championship’s final round of 2014 at Hockenheim.
The Dutchman narrowly edged ahead of Mucke’s practice pacesetter Lucas Auer, beating the German’s best time in qualifying by just 0.018s.
Carlin’s Tom Blomqvist was also within a tenth of pole, claiming third, ahead of squadmates Antonio Giovinazzi and Jordan King.
Series champion Esteban Ocon was the only driver from Prema Powerteam to break into the top ten in sixth, while Felix Rosenqvist, who led much of the session early on, had to settle for seventh.
Sean Gelael, Felix Serralles and Gustavo Menezes rounded out the top ten.
