Experienced Swede secures title after getting the points he needed in qualifying at the season finale…

Jimmy Eriksson has become the 2012 German Formula 3 Cup champion ahead of this weekend’s final races of the season at Hockenheim. The 21-year-old Swedish driver only needed three points to secure the title and claimed six bonus points for a double pole position.

Driving for the Motopark Academy-run Lotus squad, Eriksson has led much of the season. He’s taken six race wins, and now six pole positions. 2012 is Eriksson’s third season driving F3 machinery. Last year he came ninth of 11 regular entries in the F3 Euro Series after finishing sixth in the German series in 2010. Previous to that he had a year in Formula Renault, coming 15th in the NEC with one win – strangely his only top nine finish of that campaign.

It remains to be seen what move Eriksson will make in 2013.
