Alexandre Munoz and Arthur Dorison became the first French Formula 4 winners of 2025 as mixed weather conditions continued through Sunday’s opening races at Nogaro.
After the rain of Saturday, the track was completely dry for race one and Mercedes junior driver Andy Consani retained the lead at the start from pole position ahead of Munoz.
A first-lap collision between Hugo Herrouin and Paul Roques brought out the safety car, and Munoz – who took a breakthrough reversed-grid win in the last round of 2024 having previously not finished higher than ninth – was able to stay with car racing debutant Consani following the restart and find a way past a few laps later.
The safety car intervened again shortly afterwards for an issue for Pablo Riccobono Bello, and quickly recalled once more for an incident involving Niccolo Pirri and Guillaume Bouzar.
Consani lost another place soon after racing resumed to fellow karting graduate Rafael Perard, who gradually worked his way up from fifth and finished just 0.8 seconds behind Munoz after one last safety car period. Consani just held off Dorison for third.
The rain firmly returned for the start of race two, which consequently began behind the safety car. Reversed-grid polesitter Bello kept the lead ahead of Lisa Billard when the field was released, but spun off later in the lap after contact as Dorison – who started third – was challenging him around the outside.
With Roques and Leandre Carvalho also off, the safety car was deployed – at which point Billard then ended up in the gravel after narrowly avoiding running into the back of the slowing Dorison. While she was able to continue, Romeo Leurs was not so lucky and was hit from behind by Pirri. The red flag was waved with Consani also coming a cropper, although he was able to get going again with a push from the marshals and take the restart.
Dorison led the field away at the restart in front of Perard, Matteo Giacardi, Munoz and Jules Roussel. It was Roussel who was the man on the move, making quick work of Munoz and Giacardi.
Perard put the pressure on Dorison but then began to fade, with Roussel taking second away down the inside with six minutes remaining. Roussel even managed to catch Dorison before the finish, ending up just 0.3s behind.
With Perard falling to fifth, Giacardi completed the podium in third with Munoz fourth. Consani recovered from 24th to 10th.
