Vesti leads Fittipaldi in second Formula Regional European race

Frederik Vesti held off Prema team-mate Enzo Fittipaldi for a third successive to extend his Formula Regional European Championship lead at the Hungaroring.

Fittipaldi made a stunning start from fourth on the grid to challenge Vesti for the lead on the opening lap, and it took several laps before Vesti could respond with enough pace to give himself some breathing room in the lead.

The gap between the pair fluctuated as they responded to each other’s fastest laps, but in the second half of the race Vesti was the stronger driver and he prevailed by 1.314 seconds. His?championship lead now standing at 20 points over Fittipaldi.

The third Prema car of Olli Caldwell had a lonely run to third, shaking off initial pursuers Sophia Floersch and David Schumacher.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Floersch started in third, and briefly slipped back to fifth on lap one, and her fourth place finish moves her up to sixth in the standings.

Schumacher’s US Racing team-mate Marcos Siebert was sixth, driving under pressure from DR Formula by RP Motorsport’s Raul Guzman and KIC Motorsport’s Isac Blomqvist throughout the race.

Konsta Lappalainen (KIC) and Tom Beckhauser (Technorace) completed the points. Beckhauser is under investigation for an incident on lap one which put VAR’s Alexandre Bardinon out of the race.

The last finisher was Sharon Scolari, who had several off-track moments and was lapped by everyone.

Igor Fraga, currently fifth in the standings, was unable to start the race after his DR Formula car stopped at Turn 13 on the way out from the pitlane to the grid.
