Josef Kaufmann Racing’s Oscar Tunjo managed to convert his pole position into a victory in race one of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC round at Spa, having to reclaim his lead after losing it into turn one.
Indeed, it was fellow front row man Jack Aitken who got the better launch off the grid and led the opening laps of the race. With the Fortec man narrowly leading Tunjo and Matt Parry keeping close to the them in third, the trio outclassed the rest of the field, setting up a good fight for victory.
Eventually, Tunjo prevailed, overtaking Aitken and dashing away while the two Fortec drivers behind were occupied with fighting for second. As such, by the end of the race, his gap to second place has grown to five seconds, ensuring a commandeering victory.
Aitken did well to keep Parry at bay for a big chunk of the race but was eventually overtaken by the championship leader on the final lap, with the duo rounding out the podium.
Raoul Owens finished in fourth, inheriting the place after the races of Roman Beregech and Andrea Pizzitola came to a premature end. Ryan Tveter overtook Fran Rueda for fifth on the final lap, while seventh-place finisher Nicolas Jamin narrowly managed to keep Roman Mavlanov at bay. The top ten was rounded out by Tanart Sathienthirakul and Kuba Dalewski, who started the race in 20th place.
