Reigning Toyota Racing Series champion Igor Fraga has been revealed as a new addition to the Red Bull Junior Team for 2020.
The 21-year-old Brazilian, who is also backed by Gran Turismo due to a successful Esports career in which he was won the FIA Gran Turismo Nations Cup and McLaren Shadow racing competition, brings Red Bull’s junior stable up to nine drivers.
Fraga started the year racing against Liam Lawson, another Red Bull junior, for the TRS title and beat him in a close title fight that concluded with victory in the New Zealand Grand Prix.
“Very happy and honored to join the Red Bull Junior Team,” Fraga said. “I’m very thankful for the chance and I will make sure to make most of it.”
He is now stepping up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Charouz Racing System, having previously raced in F3 for several years in Brazil and in Europe, in addition to his 2020 trip to New Zealand.
Last year he impressed in the Formula Regional European Championship, finishing third in the points for DR Formula by RP Motorsport and winning four races against Prema’s dominant trio of drivers – who have also moved up to FIA F3.
Red Bull’s junior line-up is headed by Super Formula driver Juri Vips, with Jehan Daruvala and Yuki Tsunoda in Formula 2, Jack Doohan, Dennis Hauger, Fraga and Lawson in FIA F3, and Jak Crawford and Jonny Edgar in Formula 4.
