Reigning Auto GP champion Vittorio Ghirelli posted the overall quickest lap of Hungaroring practice on his return to the series, while it was his teammate Markus Pommer who led the opening session.

The Italian, who currently competes full-time in IndyCar’s chief feeder series Indy Lights, posted a time of 1:34.436 for the Super Nova squad.

The first session saw Pommer lead Zele Racing’s Tamas Pal Kiss by just 0.11s, as the two pulled way clear of the opposition. Championship leader Kimiya Sato was best of the rest in third, half a second down on the leader and a tenth ahead of returnee Ghirelli. Michela Cerruti was fifth, making it three Super Nova cars in the top five.

In practice two, Ghirelli managed a late lap to go quickest and would go on to lead Sato by 0.25s as the session came to a close. Pommer was third, while Andrea Roda?and?Kiss rounded off the top five.

Qualifying for the Hungaroring round will take place later today. Last year, it was Ghirelli who sat on pole for the Hungarian round, ahead of Kiss and Sato.
