In the latest Formula Scout Podcast, F1 journalist Edd Straw joins the team to discuss 2021’s hot topics

Straw brings a wealth of experience from stints at some of the biggest publications and podcasts in motorsport as the team discuss how the 2021 Formula 1 rookies – Formula 2 champion Mick Schumacher, his controversial Haas team-mate Nikita Mazepin and Red Bull/Honda starlet Yuki Tsunoda – will fare in their rookie seasons.

The two Haas drivers are expected to face a challenging season in the highest echelon of motorsport in what could well be another car lacking points-scoring pace from the American outfit, while Tsunoda is up against race-winner Pierre Gasly in a strong midfield team in AlphaTauri, which was often rivalling Ferrari in 2020.

In addition, what F2 provides to F1 in terms of data as a testbed is discussed – including knowledge ahead of F1’s new aerodynamic and mechanical era in 2022, and the new weekend format for F2 and fellow F1 support series FIA Formula 3 – and whether it could prove to show what direction F1 is going moving forward.

To close, our guest picks out some of the underrated drivers he worked with from his time covering the junior ranks – including Tim Bridgman (pictured below) – and speaks about his own brief career behind the wheel of a racing car.
