James Piszcyk dominated with a lights-to-flag victory in the final British Formula 4 race of the weekend at Silverstone.
Martin Molnar set the fastest lap of the race in an attempt to put pressure on the Rodin Motorsport driver, but Piszcyk didn’t put a wheel wrong throughout the 11 lap race.
Rodin Motorsport driver Piszcyk made a good start from pole position. Virtuosi Racing’s Molnar jumped past Ethan Jeff-Hall off the line and the top two immediately pulled a gap to the rest of the field.
They spent the first half of the race comfortably ahead of Fionn McLaughlin and Jeff-Hall, who were battling for third.
An incident for Tommy Harfield left him stranded at the side of the track. The incident was initially covered by yellow flags, but the safety car had to be brought out to clear Harfield’s car. That brought the field back in touch with the race leaders.
On the restart, it was Molnar who was under pressure from McLaughlin, who had claimed third before the safety car period. It wasn’t long before Molnar was able to shake off the Hitech driver, but Piszcyk had already escaped up the road.
Molnar spent the final laps closing the gap back to Piszcyk, and was just 0.676 seconds back when the chequered flag fell.
The main battle for most of the race was at the tail end of the top 10. Adam Al Azhari and Henry Joslyn were battling for the final points paying position, just ahead of Harfield and Cole Hewetson. The close fight bunched up the drivers behind them, causing Hewetson to make contact with the rear of Harfield’s car and damage his own front wing. When Harfield came to a stop shortly after, Hewetson came into the pits for a new nose cone.
Al Azhari was ahead at the safety car restart, but wouldn’t stay there for long. Joslyn retook 10th and began to challenge Chase Fernandez for ninth. He soon found a way through, with Al Azhari following him past to demote Fernandez to 11th. Joslyn came home ninth, just over a second behind Xavier Avramedes.
Ahead of them, Rowan Campbell-Pilling took sixth. He had challenged Leo Robinson ahead on the restart, but couldn’t find a way through. Instead, he came under pressure from Thomas Bearman in the closing laps, but managed to hold onto his position.
