Pic edges Ellinas to claim MRF pole at Indian GP

Arthur Pic narrowly defeated Tio Ellinas to claim pole position for the MRF Challenge support event at the Indian Grand Prix.

Formula Renault 3.5 regular Pic – who had topped the earlier free practice session – lapped the Buddh circuit in a time of 1m55.684s, putting him 0.061 seconds clear of GP3 race winner Ellinas.

FIA F3 European Championship driver Harry Tincknell claimed third place, 0.168s away from Pic.

Ex-F3 Open driver Sam Dejonghe took fourth ahead of Japan’s Yudai Jinkawa, who was the last driver within a second of pole position.

Rupert Svendsen-Cook was sixth ahead of Sean Walkinshaw, with Shinya Michimi, Renan Guerra and top local driver Parth Ghorpade.

The two 25-minute races are due to take place at 15:30 on Saturday and 12:30 on Sunday local time.
