Nazim Azman ends pre-event British F3 test at Donington Park on top

Carlin duo Nazim Azman and Kaylen Frederick upped the pace on the second day of BRDC British Formula 3’s pre-event test on Donington Park’s Grand Prix layout.

Kush Maini, who separates the pair in the end-of-test times, started Friday’s running as the fastest driver and topped the opening session of the day by over a quarter of a second. That session was interrupted by a late red flag, caused by series newcomers Frank Bird and Alex Fore.

Bird’s Fortec Motorsports-run car came to a stop at Craner Curves, while Chris Dittmann Racing’s debutant Alex Fores spun at Coppice.

Hitech GP driver Maini was again fastest in the second session, this time by just 0.005s over Frederick.

Carlin had the better pace going into the afternoon, with Frederick topping session three and then Azman waiting until the final minute of the last session before putting in the fastest lap of the test.

Maini and Frederick were second and third fastest of the day courtesy of their session two efforts, while Douglas Motorsport’s Ulysse De Pauw, Hitech’s Reece Ushijima and Lanan Racing’s Bart Horsten made it into the top six in the combined classification with their personal bests from the end of the day.

Bird was 16th fastest out of 18 but only 0.861s off Azman’s benchmark, and is evaluating whether to race in the series. F3 Cup leader Fores, who will race in British F3 at Donington as a one-off, was 1.466s slower than the benchmark pace.
