Fortec driver Jazeman Jaafar continued to impress at Monaco, picking up pole for the sole race of the Formula Renault 3.5 round.

It marked the Malaysian’s first pole in the series, at a track where he’s finished a career-best third in FR3.5 in both 2013 and 2014.

The field was split into two groups in the qualifying, both of them controlled by a Fortec driver. Group A, which was once red-flagged after Philo Armand suffered a crash, saw Oliver Rowland ease to first, with the Briton joining his teammate on the front row.

The best of the rest were Matthieu Vaxiviere and Nyck de Vries, the latter becoming the top rookie of the session.

Despite being the only one to briefly steal the lead from Jaafar in Group B, Red Bull junior Dean Stoneman will line up on row three. He will be followed Strakka’s Tio Ellinas?and Carlin’s Tom Dillmann.

Eurocup FR2.0 duo?Gustav Malja and?Egor Orudzhev and Brazilian Pietro Fantin?will complete the top ten on the grid.
