Mick Schumacher takes double Nurburgring pole in European F3

by Ida Wood

Mick Schumacher took pole for the second and third European Formula 3 races at the Nurburgring, beating Prema team-mate Robert Shwartzman once again.

The German and the Russian battled for pole for the first race, with Shwartzman triumphing, but this time it was Schumacher who was the quicker of the two, and he took his third and fourth poles of the season.

They were challenged by championship leader Dan Ticktum, who topped the times for brief periods. The Motopark driver ended third, crucially ahead of all of his title rivals bar Schumacher.

Prema’s Marcus Armstrong was fourth and fifth, swapping positions in the classification with Hitech GP’s Alex Palou for the two grids, with Ralf Aron managing sixth and seventh. Ticktum’s team-mate Juri Vips was 10th fastest overall, but managed to climb to eighth on second best times.

Fellow Motopark driver Jonathan Aberdein was seventh fastest, but made a mistake on his second best lap and ended up 13th for the race three grid.

Guan Yu Zhou was ninth twice for Prema, with Carlin’s Sacha Fenestraz eighth and sixth, and Hitech’s Enaam Ahmed completing the top 10 on second best times.
