Leon extends Euroformula lead with easy win in Hungary

Noel Leon extended his Euroformula point lead with a comfortable lights-to-flag victory in race one at the Hungaroring.

The order from the grid was almost the same at the finish 17 laps later, with poleman Leon finishing 5.234 seconds clear of Motopark team-mate Cian Shields. The gap between the top two was larger than what covered second to sixth.

Josh Mason, driving for Motopark’s Japanese offshoot CryptoTower Racing Team, passed BVM Racing’s Francesco Simonazzi for third on lap one and then held that position to the finish under pressure for his first podium of the season, while Noda Racing’s Juju Noda started and finished fifth but spent a lot of time with Motopark’s Bryce Aron filling her mirrors trying to force her into a mistake.

Simonazzi’s fourth place means he is now 37 points behind Leon in the standings, which means the leader could miss a race and still sit atop the standings.

Aron had passed Jakob Bergmeister for sixth on lap one, and Bergmeister stayed behind at first but mid-race got passed by CryptoTower’s series returnee Benjamin Berta to finish a distant eighth.
