Korjus and Williamson fastest on first day of Hungaroring test

Kevin Korjus and Lewis Williamson set the pace on the first of two days of in-season GP3 testing at the Hungaroring.

Korjus, driving for series newcomers Koiranen GP, was quickest in qualifying and claimed a podium finish at last month’s Barcelona season opener. He continued his strong form with a time of 1m32.530s during the morning session in Hungary to end the day fastest.

Another new team Bamboo Engineering enjoyed a strong showing with lead drivers Williamson and Melville McKee in second and third respectively during the morning, 0.251s and 0.491s respectively away from Korjus.

Facu Regalia was fourth for ART ahead of Jenzer’s Alex Fontana and MW Arden’s Daniil Kvyat. Korjus’ team-mate and Barcelona race two winner Aaro Vainio took seventh spot ahead of David Fumanelli, Patric Niederhauser and Barcelona race one winner Tio Ellinas.

Rain fell before the afternoon session, but the track began to dry out and Williamson managed the fastest time of 1m33.710s before more showers in the closing stages.

Kvyat was second, 0.091s down on Williamson, ahead of Nick Yelloly and Carlos Sainz. Vainio and Ellinas completed the top six, ahead of Status GP pair Jimmy Eriksson and Adderly Fong, Robert Visoiu and Josh Webster.
