Simone Iaquinta took full advantage of starting from reverse-grid pole for race two of the Formula Abarth round at Mugello, storming away to victory as the rest of the field wound up embroiled in lots of wheel-to-wheel action.
Iaquinta, who missed out on both qualifying sessions due to a mechanical issue and subsequently started race one from the back, was again in full damage limitation mode, making the most out of the reverse-grid pole that he fought his way up to in race one. His lead was under some threat off the line, but, eventually, he settled into first and started pulling away after lap one, with no pressure to defend for the lead up to the checkered flag.
In second, fellow front row starter Lukas Moraes found himself under pressure from Michele Beretta for the entirety of the race. Come last lap, Beretta finally found a way through, moving into second, with Moraes forced to settle for third.
A quiet race from Luis Michael Dorrbecker saw him finish in a lonely fourth, while series guests Giorgio Roda and Dario Orsini both overtook Sergey Trofimov in the closing stages of the race to take fifth and sixth respectively. Trofimov himself crossed the line in seventh, the first out of the National class drivers.
Championship leader Alessio Rovera retired early on, when his attempt to overtake Kevin Gilardoni ended with the two colliding. Another top six retirement saw Giada De Zen lose the car into the wall midway through the race.
