Mucke Motorsport driver Maximilian Gunther topped ADAC Formel Masters qualifying at Hockenheim.
The 16-year-old youngster prevailed in a late-session battle with series champion Alessio Picariello, as the Mucke duo pulled away from the rest of the field in the final minutes.
With Picariello settling for second, Neuhauser driver Marvin Dienst took third, narrowly overhauling fellow rookies Fabian Schiller and Ralph Boschung.
Top Lotus driver Beitske Visser was sixth, with Stefan Riener taking seventh. Jason Kremer, Nicolas Beer and Benedikt Gentgen rounded out the top ten.
Gunther, Picariello and Dienst will also occupy the top three on the grid for race two.
