First names revealed for Florida Winter Series

by Peter Allen

The Ferrari Driver Academy has released some of the names down to compete in their Florida Winter Series in early 2014.

Members of the Academy are amongst those set to take part, with karting graduate Lance Stroll, Formula Renault Alps champion Antonio Fuoco and FIA F3 European Champion Raffaele Marciello all due to compete in the event which takes place over four weekends in January and February.

Marussia F1 driver Jules Bianchi will even take part in one of the events, as will Swiss IndyCar driver Simona de Silvestro.

F3 drivers Ed Jones, Dennis van de Laar, Nicholas Latifi and Luis Sa Silva will take part, as will Formula Renault driver Alex Bosak and karting graduate Leonardo Pulcini.

“By taking part in in the Florida Winter Series, we want the drivers to increase their experience in all sectors and that, particularly for the very youngest, they start to tackle all the difficult aspects of this job,” said FDA director Luca Baldisserri.

“For example, we will ask them to support the mechanics as they work on assembling and dismantling their cars, thus increasing their practical mechanical knowledge. It?s the best way to understand how what they do out on track can affect the work that goes on in the pits.

“Furthermore, in between races there will be time not only to fine tune their physical preparation in pleasant weather, but also to work with the engineers on analysing the data and, no less important, to share their experiences with drivers from different backgrounds.?
