Federico Malvestiti joins FIA F3 grid with Jenzer at Silverstone

by Peter Allen

Federico Malvestiti will make his FIA Formula 3 debut with Jenzer Motorsport at Silverstone this weekend.

The Monza native raced for Jenzer in Italian Formula 4 in 2017-’18 (having made his series debut during 2015) and finished sixth in the standings last year with a win at Imola.

He went on to take part in the final GP3 test with the team in Abu Dhabi last December, but has started 2019 competing in the Formula Renault Eurocup with Bhaitech, finishing fifth on his debut at Monza but not scoring since.

Malvestiti joins Yuki Tsunoda and Andreas Estner in the Jenzer FIA F3 line-up, taking the place of of his former F4 team-mate Giorgio Carrara, who made a one-off FIA F3 outing at the Red Bull Ring.

“I?m very happy to debut in the FIA F3,” said Malvestiti.

“It?s a great opportunity for me to learn as much as I can, especially with my old team of F4 supporting me, with whom we have shared a lot of beautiful moments. I?m looking forward to start racing.?

Team boss Andreas Jenzer said he hoped Malvestiti could make a full-time move into the series in 2020.

?It feels good to have Federico back in the team,” said Jenzer.

“We had some great results together in the past and look forward to work together again.

“Let?s enjoy this experience and then hopefully he will graduate to FIA F3 for a full season next year.”
