Eurocup-3 points leader Esteban Masson will make a return to the Formula Regional European Championship at the Hungaroring this weekend with Sainteloc Racing.
Masson is in his third full year of single-seater racing, having made French Formula 4 cameos in 2019 and ’20 before racing full-time in the championship in 2021 and winning it.
He then stepped up to FREC for 2022, contesting the first six rounds with the MP Motorsport-run FA Racing team with one points finish. The driver market then opened up mid-season, freeing a space at ART Grand Prix which Masson claimed.
After joining the team for the last four rounds, he finished no higher than 11th and ended up 24th in the standings.
This March he committed to joining the new FRegional-based Eurocup-3 series with Campos Racing, and in the first three rounds has claimed two wins, a pole and two third places to currently sit as the points leader.
Sainteloc joined the FREC grid this year by taking over FA Racing’ assets, and has run two cars in the first two rounds of the season. Nicolas Baptiste had been signed for its third vehicle, and was Masson’s team-mate at FA Racing in 2022, but is yet to make an appearance this season and it will be Masson who will be racing that car at the Hungaroring.
“I’m delighted to join Sainteloc Racing in FREC in Hungary,” said Masson. “I can’t wait to start working with the team.”
The 18-year-old Frenchman will be the most experienced driver in Sainteloc’s line-up this weekend, as he will be team-mate to rookies Emmo Fittipaldi and Lucas Medina.
