Mikkel Pedersen won Denmark’s Formula 4 championship this year, and he will stay in the category for 2024 by moving to Spain’s national championship with the Drivex School team.
Pedersen made his F4 debut last year in the final round of the Danish season, finishing fourth in his very first race. He started the 2023 campaign with his first podium, then won the next two races. From the two rounds in Sweden he came away with two wins, a second place and a pole, then he took a further two victories on the return to Denmark.
He brought his podium tally up to 11 in the next round, and although he took pole for the season finale he retired from race one, finished seventh in race two and only just became champion with fifth place in the title-deciding race three.
“I’m really looking forward to next season,” said Pedersen. “I feel I’ve had some good tests with Drivex and I’ve never looked forward to a season so much before and I will do my absolute best.”
Miguel Angel de Castro, CEO of Drivex, said: “We are very happy to have Mikkel in the team, since the first test he did with us, he has always shown speed and a lot of progression. In addition, the fact that he has been proclaimed champion of the Danish F4, has given him a very important maturity to be able to compete for the title in the hyper-competitive Spanish F4.”
After joining Cram Motorsport as a guest driver for the last two rounds of 2023, 15-year-old Brazilian racer Filippo Fiorentino will do the full Spanish F4 season with the Italian team next year and also contest the Formula Winter Series.
Fiorentino’s best result from his first six races in F4 was an 18th place, but he has already shown he can fight further up the field in single-seaters as he came 11th in the 2023 Formula Delta Brasil championship as a rookie.
“This will be my second season in single-seaters. After a first year in Brazil, I’m very excited to enter the Spanish F4 championship in 2024,” he said.
“I hope to have a productive season with Cram Motorsport, thus taking the first steps towards the top of motorsport. I trust that, with all the support I have, I can achieve it. The objective is none other than to evolve constantly in the coming years. I am very grateful to the team for everything they have done for me this season. I believe we can achieve great things together.”
His team-mate in both F4 series next year will be Flavio Olivieri. The Italian will be going into his second year with Cram, having come 21st in Spanish F4 with them this year. His best finish over the season was an eighth place.
“My first year in Spanish F4 was challenging given the high level of experience of the drivers,” said Olivieri. “But I’m sure that this tough debut season will certainly be useful for my second campaign in the championship in 2024.”
