Robert Cregan will return to the GP3 Series in Abu Dhabi this weekend, driving for Trident in place of David Fumanelli.
Cregan’s father Richard runs the Yas Marina Circuit. Last year the Irishman raced in GP3 for the now-defunct Ocean squad, managing a best result of 11th.
“I am very excited to be racing with Trident this weekend,” said Cregan, who turns 25 next Monday.
“It all came together quite late but I think it is possible to get a good result. I have not raced since the last race in Monza in 2012 so I cannot wait to jump into the car. I have been following the series this year and with the new car and a very competitive field it will be a big challenge but one I am really looking forward too.”
Fumanelli had a difficult season with Trident, scoring only in the opening race of the season in Barcelona.
