Lotus man Emil Bernstorff has topped German F3 qualifying at Nurburgring to clame the top spot on the grid for race one, but, in the other feature races, it’s his teammate Marvin Kirchhofer who will line up in pole position.

The Brit has taken the lead in the session early on with a benchmark lapp that was unmatched for most of the session as the Cup class drivers quickly abandoned their first timed runs. With ten minutes to go, the real fight kicked off, and Bernstorff managed to hold on to first, coming out on top in a fight with Kirchhofer.

The championship leader can still be satisfied with his qualifying performance, as his consistently quick laps brought him pole position for race three, in which he will start ahead of Bernstorff.

The rest of the drivers weren’t really a factor in the fight for pole. Artem Markelov and John Bryant-Meisner found themselves embroiled in a fight for third, with Markelov coming out on top in the very end of the session. However, for race three, the Swede kept his place ahead of the Lotus driver.

Thomas Jager took fifth in the session, ahead of Van Amersfoort’s Gustavo Menezes and Nabil Jeffri. Matteo Cairoli, who missed practice due to feeling unwell, will line up in eighth.

Sebastian Balthasar has posted the quickest time among the Trophy class cars, securing ninth on the grid.
