After a one-round hiatus from GP2, Dutchman Robin Frijns will return to the championship, replacing his longtime teammate Jon Lancaster at Hilmer Motorsport for the Spa-Francorchamps weekend.
Frijns, 22, has previously joined Hilmer after the opening round of the 2013 season. The reigning WSR champion participated in five race weekends, including a very successful Catalunya outing that yielded him his maiden win, before being ousted following the Nurburgring round.
Robin’s hiring comes at the expense of Lancaster, who loses his seat after scoring two victories for Hilmer in 2013. Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will stay with the German team, having originally replaced the very man he’ll be racing with at Spa.
Being one of the most highly-rated drivers in junior single-seaters, Frijns has amassed victories in every series he’s raced and has secured titles in Formula BMW Europe, Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5.
