British racer Alexander Sims will return to the GP3 lineup at Spa-Francorchamps, joining the Carlin squad in place of Eric Lichtenstein.

Sims, 25, has won a race and scored multiple podiums during his 2011 campaign in the GP3 series. He returned to the series this year, joining Status for the Nurburgring round, where he took the team’s first podium of the season.

“It’s been a bit of a last minutes dash but of course I’m delighted to join the team for this weekend”, said Sims. “I’ve never raced with Carlin before but I have a good relationship with Trevor and was delighted when I was offered the opportunity to race this weekend.? The new GP3 car is fantastic and Spa is a great circuit, so I can’t wait to get on track and hope I can deliver a strong result.”

“Spa is a circuit that both teams and drivers look forward to”, added team boss Trevor Carlin. “We?re very pleased to welcome super-sub Alexander to the team this weekend.? It goes without saying that the team will work hard to help him familiarize himself with our car as quickly as possible.”

The British squad has two podiums in 2013, both courtesy of experienced driver Nick Yelloly. Alongside Yelloly and Sims, the Carlin lineup for Spa will include team regular Luis Sa Silva.
