Belgian rising star Stoffel Vandoorne took pole for the Formula Renault 3.5 at Moscow Raceway, beating fellow championship contender Antonio Felix da Costa by a mere 0.036s.
The duo were fighting for the top of the timesheets all throughout the session and eventually emerged in a league of their own. In third, 0.45s behind was championship leader Kevin Magnussen.
In fourth, it was Nigel Melker ahead of rookie Will Buller, who held the top time in the standings closer to the end before settling in fifth.
Vandoorne’s teammate Oliver Webb took sixth, ahead of Lotus rookie Marlon Stockinger. Will Stevens took eighth, ahead of Draco teammates Nico Muller and Andre Negrao.
