Kevin Magnussen continued to head the Formula Renault 3.5 field in second practice for round two of the season at Motorland Aragon.

Having topped Thursday’s additional test session and Friday morning’s first practice, the Dane was again in first place during the afternoon session, which took place on a dry track after the earlier rain. Magnussen, who has been the McLaren reserve driver at the Chinese and Bahrain Grands Prix since the FR3.5 opener at Monza, sits second in the drivers’ standings after two second-place finishes in Italy.

“We managed to work through our programme for the day,” he said. “We had some good pace and we have to keep on working if we?re going to build on these performances tomorrow. We need to score big points. I can?t wait for the race to start.”

Red Bull counterpart Antonio Felix da Costa was second quickest in the afternoon, 0.112 seconds away from Magnussen.

“You can only be satisfied when you get first place, though we were fast,” said the Arden Caterham driver. “It?s going to be a very tight weekend and we?ll need to keep an eye on the weather and see where we are on the start grid. It?s a track that everyone knows very well.”

Lotus man Marco Sorensen was close behind in third, while Will Stevens, Daniil Move and Nigel Melker were all in the top six, just as they were on Thursday.

Felix da Costa’s teammate Pietro Fantin showed competitively in seventh, just ahead of early championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne. Nico Muller and Sergey Sirotkin completed the top ten.
