Reigning Formula Regional Americas champion Dakota Dickerson won the championship’s Esports race at Barber Motorsports Park on iRacing.
It was a fairly easy win from pole for Dickerson, who briefly looked like he could be threatened by usual pacesetter Phillippe Denes midway through the race before the latter half-spun on the pit straight and lost second place. He was out of the top 10 just a few laps later.
Darius Trinka had started fifth, but he rose to second after Simon Sikes almost crashed when he hit an off-tack bump hard and when Denes spun. He had no answer to Dickerson, who admitted he was just managing his pace once Denes’ challenge ended, and a multi-car battle behind meant he was safe in second.
Flinn Lazier came from even further back on the grid to complete the podium, and also relied on others’ misfortune for his progress up the order. He even lost a spot on the way, before reclaiming it from John Southern Jr at the end of the penultimate lap. Southern then had to defend from Blake Upton again through the final few kilometres to claim fourth.
Sikes’ recovery resulted in sixth place, ahead of Jonathan Scarallo, round one winner Ben Waddell, Denes, Formula 4 champion Marco Kacic and Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series race-winner Jackson Lee.
Series frontrunner Dario Cangialosi disappointed down in 14th, ahead of early frontrunner Quinlan Lall – whose chance of a good result was ruined by a trip to the pits.
