Sergey Sirotkin will return to Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix to fill in for Christian Lundgaard in the pre-season test in Bahrain.

Renault-backed rookie Lundgaard has been unable to travel to Bahrain as he is in quarantine in a Tenerife hotel where other guests have tested positive for the coronavirus.

ART will still run two cars in the test, with Marcus Armstrong being joined by ex-Williams Formula 1 racer Sirotkin.

The Russian spent a whole season racing for ART in 2016, and made a further appearance for the team at Baku in 2017 when Alex Albon was ruled out with injury.

After racing for Williams through 2018, Sirotkin spent last year as reserve driver for Renault and McLaren, as well as driving for the SMP Racing LMP1 squad that was operated by ART.

The three-day Bahrain test is crucial for the F2 teams, as their only running with the new 18-inch wheels and tyres before the opening races at the same circuit later in March.

In his role with Renault, Sirotkin conducted Pirelli’s first test with 18-inch F1 tyres in September 2019.
