David Schumacher will make his FIA Formula 3 Championship debut in Sochi this weekend in place of the injured Alex Peroni at Campos Racing.
Peroni will miss the final round of the season following his huge accident at Monza, when his car was launched into the air by a kerb in the Parabolica run-off during the opening race.
He suffered a fractured vertebra in the crash and has returned home to Tasmania to recover.
Schumacher has been racing this year in the Formula Regional European Championship for the US Racing team co-owned by his father and six-time Formula 1 grand prix winner Ralf.
Last weekend he took two wins at Barcelona, his second and third wins of the campaign, and moved up to third in the standings.
?I am really happy to join a high-profile team such as Campos Racing,” he said.
“It will be my first time driving a car like this so, we should be realistic and put our focus on learning as much as possible.?
Schumacher, cousin of Formula 2 racer Mick, started racing single-seaters in 2018 when he finished ninth in ADAC Formula 4 with US Racing.
“I would like to extend a very warm welcome to such a talented driver as David,” said team boss Adrian Campos.
“I am sure that he is definitely promising a brilliant future in motorsport. We are aiming at helping him progress his career.”
Schumacher is the second new driver to join the FIA F3 grid for Sochi, after Charles Leong signed with Jenzer Motorsport.
